This patient, aged 26 years, underwent a total femoral replacement in 1980 for osteosarcoma. He worked all his life as an electrician but required three further surgical procedures – two cup revisions and a complete revision of the shaft (replacement for the affected bone) and stem (replacement inside the bone). All were due to wear of the bearing surfaces because he was so active.
